Ode to My Father

My Dad's birthday was on march 6th. I feel terrible, because even though I remembered to call him about 7 times during the day, I also forgot 7 times, so I ended up being the black sheep of the family by not calling my Dad. To make up for my lack of support in my dads old age, I decided to post a list about why I love my dad. My intentions are completly pure. Well, that is if you don't count that I know this will completly embarass him. No worries though. I will be in trouble later!

Why I love my Dad........

  1. He let me watch the Simpsons when mom wouldn't let me.

  2. His abnoxious humor, that no one really gets, but we all laugh anyway. Well, that's not true, we sadly do kinda "get" his humor.

  3. His honesty ("Why haven't you done your hair yet dear?")

  4. Yelling at the top of his lungs when dropping us off at high school "I LOVE YOU! LEARN LOTS AT SCHOOL TODAY! DID I MENTION THAT I LOVE YOU?" Not the least big embarrassing.

  5. His hugs.

  6. He's always willing to help when we need it (thanks for helping with the swing set!).

  7. His unwavering worry and concern for my health. Maybe a little TOO much worry, but I know he really cares about me.

  8. I loved going to work with him as a kid. He has always worked in television, so I always felt important using his pass to open the doors and going into the studio's. My favorite part was the graphic art computers he would let me draw on.

  9. Seeing how helpful he is to others. I remember once, after I had learned to drive, he had me stop in the middle of an intersection to grab something that had fallen out of the back of someone's truck. The truck had stopped a few hundred yards from us and he jumped out in the middle of traffic to help salvage thier stuff. Right then I thought he was going to die and that he was crazy, but now I am glad I saw him do that. It's who he really is (though it really was a bit crazy). Now he is a pilot for Angle Flight, a bunch of volunteers who help sick people and thier families who can't afford the long flights/drives to and from appointments.

  10. His love for animals. HA! No, my dad says he hates animals, and maybe he really does. I've never been able to honestly figure it out. On one hand he let me keep every stray I brought home (yes, I was THAT kid) and he would play with them like crazy. On the other hand, he says he hates them and would rather be eating them than feeding them. (See the above photo's).

  11. O.k., so this could go on forever. I'm just gald he's my dad and that he loves me, my siblings, my mom, my kids, and my husband. I am sorry I didn't call you, Dad, but I hope you know I love you! Happy birthday! You're old!
