Be Kind

I taught the 5 year old class at church in Primary today. The lesson was on being kind to others. We talked about following the example of Jesus Christ and loving one another. It was SO cute. First of all, they all had to tell me everything about how people aren't nice and what they do wrong. Ya know, we had conversations like this:

Me: "What did you do to be nice this week?"

Child: "Nothing. My brother was mean to me because he's always mean."

Me: "O.k. well, what can you do to be nice?"

Child: "My mom wouldn't give me money. You have pretty hair. My sister has curly hair. I wish I did, but my mom doesn't curl it for me."

Anyway, the conversations would drift into the land of nowhere quite often, but these are 5 year olds, what do you do. So, after singing some songs, reading some scriptures and having a hard time keeping the lesson on track, we payed a game. Each child had a turn to sit in a seat up front and wear a crown. Everyone in the class had to say one nice thing to the "Prince" or "Princess". There was only one boy in the class and he kept saying "I like your crown" to everyone. HA! I loved it! After everyone was done, they insisted I take a turn. They were so cute. I have never had so many complements. Everything from my pretty necklace to my dress. It was awesome. They got two treats!
