Spur of the Moment? Us? Can't be!

We had the best weekend! I had found a $5 kid ticket deal for Sea World and became convinced we were going. We had some question mark days where we weren't sure if we would have rehearsal so I thought that would be a great time to go. I bugged our director about it all week but he kept saying "keep those days open", so I was starting to believe we weren't going to get the time off at all. Then, last week, he told us to take Friday and Saturday off. I was thrilled and told Mike we should just go. We never do things sporadically, so he was hesitant to agree. I told him there was no changing my mind- so he had to agree :) I booked everything last Wednesday, and we left on Friday. We said NOTHING to the kids other than we were running some errands. After about 20 min into the desert Tyson started figuring out we weren't going to Wal-Mart, though Anna was still convinced we were heading to a store. Ty tried to guess but never figured it out. We got to the hotel at about 8 pm and checked in. At that time we noticed that the back, right break light on out van lost it's cover. Random. Somewhere on the freeway it fell off. Anyway, we got to our room then checked everything out. Mini golf course, heated pool, and even a movie on the pool patio. The hotel was right on the bay. So pretty! The kids wanted to swim, so reluctantly, we got swimming suits on in the chilly weather and got in the pool. We loved every minute. The pool was warm and we had a great time playing. We went back to the room and got ready for bed. The kids still had no idea why we were there.....and they didn't find out until we got there the next morning :) Ready for bed on Fri. night.

This was at the opening of the park. I thought it was so cute- had to take a picture!
We got in the park, took a picture then went to eat. We got meal tickets for everyone to eat all day. So worth it. We could go through the line as many times as we wanted all day at a discount to the actual prices. We had every meal there and it was always very tasty!
Atlantis- a water ride. Bray and I didn't go on it since it was chilly and overcast. The other crazy three went on it first thing.

This is what Bray and I did while the others were on the ride.
Lookin' at the penguins!

Us as penguins.
The first show of the day was the new "Blue Horizons" dolphin show. We LOVED it- except when the huge whales came out and splashed us. Brayden lost it and buried his face into me for the rest of the show. We didn't sit in splash zones after that :)

This was the Sea Lion Show- "Sea Lion Live" (SLL)- a spoof of SNL.
The kids loved the little otter. I must say he was dang cute.

We went to the Sesame Street play land. There were kids rides, a HUGE play ground, a bounce area, and a toddler play area. It was perfect. I think the kids could have stayed there all day. I thought it was just a playground, but then the characters came out and did a show for us. It was great. We were fourth in line for pictures.

The next show was "Believe", starring Shamu himself. There were 4 killer whales in the show and it was about a kid who lived his dream and is now a trainer there at the park. It was really inspiring.

We (or I should say the rest of my family) fed the bat rays. I'm not a fan of holding dead fish.
On our way to the Shark Experience. It's a big, glass tube you walk through as the sharks pass over and around you. It was awesome.

The was the set for Cirque de Mar. These people were hilarious and have miraculous strength. I was blown away and felt rather wimpy. I can't imagine being that fit- ever. I like cake and tv too much :)

We went to a final Shamu show called "Shamu Rocks". It was full of great music, lights, and tons of tricks. It was great. Right after, we saw fireworks from our seats. They were set to music and were beautiful. What a great day!

This is my favorite picture. This was Sunday morning. After staying up so late, the kids were really tired. My kids usually are up between 6:30 and 7:30 am. No sleep-in time at our house- even when we stay up late. Look at the clock though! 8:50 California time!!! That's 9:50 Utah time! It was awesome!

Mike splurged the night before and ordered us breakfast delivered to our room. Nothing better than breakfast in bed!
We packed up and went to the San Diego Temple. Much to our disappointment, the temple is having it's 10 year touch up and is covered in scafolding. It was still very peaceful and nice. A very kind family took a picture for us.

We stopped at the La Jolla beach on the way out of town. The kids were just going to put there feet in, but we all know how that ends up! The older two were soaked by the end. Needless to say, we ended up changing both Ty and Anna before we went home. It was so fun and hilarious! It was Bray's first experiance with an ocean and he wasn't all that impressed. He hung out on towels with Mike most of the time, but he managed to put his feet in a couple of times. I accidentally deleted some of the pictures, so I'll have to add them on another post.

Going home! Such a sweet time with our family. The kids were perfect and GREAT travelers. It takes about 7 hours when I drive- 6 when Mike drives- and they were so great. Maybe we'll have to do another trip one day.....

Your photos are fantastic! What happy kids! I'm sure it was worth every dime, and the drive! Way to go!
