The Life of a Fish

Mader, our little rusty colored fish, has gone to the other side. Yes, that's right, he died last night. Those who are wondering, it was not from natural causes. When I came home from work last night @ 12:15 am, I went straight up stairs and hadn't noticed anything. This morning we got up very early so that we could be ready to go to see the parade in Cedar, so I didn't pay much attention to the make-up of the counter top where the fish tank usually is. We got home at about 9:30 tonight. Mike dropped off me and Brayden while the rest of the fam went to watch fireworks. I walked in the kitchen and noticed the lack of fish stuff. I called Mike and asked if Mader had died. He said, "Yeah, well, maybe. He could still be alive in our septic tank." He had looked at the fish tank (which neither of us had cleaned in awhile) and decided it was time for Mader to meet the porcelain throne. He didn't want to clean it and was sick of it taking up so much counter space. I feel a little guilty about it. We inherited him from our friends Adam and Summer and he's been with us for 1 1/2 years. The kids loved him and when they notice he's gone they will surely be sad about it. Anyway, so we are pet free for now. I'm sure our little offspring will undoubtedly be followed home by some kitty, puppy, elephant, or tortoise one of these days. I just hope we'll be baby free by then.

Wow, I can't believe that fish made it this long. Sometimes we went weeks without feeding it (months without cleaning the bowl) and it would somehow pull through. Who knows, he's probably still alive in the sewer. :)
